Van Gogh malte stets im Freien und besaß ein spezielles Talent, die Feinheiten des Lichts und Schattens der Dunkelheit einzufangen. Zu seinen Lebzeiten konnte er nur sehr wenige Bilder verkaufen und wurde erst posthum zu einem der einflussreichsten Künstler des letzten Jahrhunderts.
